Despite scoring first Bassett lose at Spencer Moulton

Drawing 1-1 at hall-time in their game at Bradford with Wootton Bassett, Spencer Moulton improved in the second half and finally won by a handsome margin. First-half play was fairly even. but Moulton's superior ball distribution and solid defending in the second half made them worthy winners.

The visitors were first to score, going ahead after four minutes with a goal by inside right Pye. Moultons equalised within a minute through centre forward Davis after he had been put through by Hodgson. Bassett again attacked and Couldrake made a good save from Leslie. At the other end Davis was unlucky not to score when he hit the Bassett crossbar with a terrific shot. Both goalkeepers, Couldrake and Clifton, were playing good games, but chances were wasted in this half by both sides.

Moultons settled down in the second half, finding the dry ball to their liking, and soon went ahead. Davis scored the goal after being put through by Watts. Hodgson got the next two with fine efforts, and Long added the fifth, the ball just slipping through the hands of Clifton, who had hitherto played a fine game. Towards the end of the game a misunderstanding in the Moulton defence let Lane through for Bassett to score his side's second. Hodgson and Uncles played well for Moultons, and Jackson had a good game for the visitors.
