Veterans Football

As well as catering for those at the start of their journey in football, Royal Wootton Bassett Town offers opportunities for those towards the end of their career or who thought their playing days were behind them through its thriving Veterans section.

Providing a great way to remain active for those aged 35 and over, both competitive and recreational playing opportunities are available.

Since its establishment, the Veterans section has proven to be a great success, with members not only getting the chance to continue to enjoy playing the beautiful game, but also maintain their fitness, form new friendships and have fun – both on and off the pitch.

Competitive Football

Royal Wootton Bassett Town currently have two Veterans teams playing organised league football.

The Over 35s participate in the Wiltshire County League Veterans Division, while an Over 50s side play in the Oxfordshire Over 50s Premier League.

Numerous friendlies are organised throughout the year too, with particular importance attached to the annual 'Super Sunday' event, which features a number of games including a fixture against the Royal Air Force FA Veterans.

Players interested in joining the club's Veterans' teams should contact the relevant team manager. Their contact details can all be found in the directory on the 'Team Contacts' tab.

All players who join are considered members of the club. This entitles them to become members of the Royal Wootton Bassett Sports Association and benefit from various discounts.

Recreation Football

The club's Veterans section have established dedicated weekly Friday night recreational sessions. These take place on the AGP pitch at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground from 7:30-8:30pm, with the opportunity to socialise in the clubhouse afterwards.

To cover the costs of hiring the facility, players contribute £15 on a monthly basis (payable by Direct Debit).

For more information about taking part in the Veterans' 'Friday Football' sessions, please contact Head of Veterans Section Martin Ohrland.

Walking Football

In addition, the club also runs Walking Football sessions on a Monday evening on the AGP pitch at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. These take place each week from 7-8pm, with the opportunity to socialise in the clubhouse afterwards.

A small £3 fee is payable per session.

A gentler paced, non-contact form of the sport, Walking Football allows those with a passion for football, but who wish to now play at a slower pace or who may have had mobility, fitness or other health problems, to carrying on taking part in the beautiful game.

Walking Football sessions are therefore available to all adults (men and women) – not just those aged 35 and over.
